SECRET #1 – YOU NEED A WEBSITE
Many scams will try to sell you the idea that to be successful as an affiliate marketer, you do not need a website. Do not fall for this. Ask yourself why someone who owns a site will try to convince you not to start your own site.
As a business person, a website is an essential part of your virtual property. As an affiliate marketer, your website helps build your brand. It is the first point of interaction between you and your potential clients, so you need it if you want to make a good first impression.
A business without a website seems unprofessional and one that does not pay attention to details or care about customer engagement. You need a website to help build user trust in your affiliate marketing business. To top it all off, your website allows you to communicate with your audience. Communication is key if you want to improve and cater to the needs of your customers, which in turn converts to more revenue.
Clearly, without a website, your affiliate marketing business is going nowhere fast. Would you like to get one or two commissions every so often and go months and months with nothing to show for your efforts? This is what happens when you don’t have a website. Or would you like to earn a sustainable passive income from your business, an income that you can actually live on if it came to it? This is the outcome you can hope for with a website. You decide!
SECRET #2 – YOU NEED TRAFFIC
Traffic is the blood that pumps through the veins of your affiliate marketing business and keeps it alive. If you want to be successful, you need to consolidate a loyal following or a reader base. The only way to do this is by constantly having original and helpful content.
Your content comes in three forms:
1. Text content
2. Video Content
3. Infographics
You can also have a combination of different content types to add that extra oomph to your website. For example, you can have a text-heavy article with an informative video inside it and intermittent infographics to illustrate the main points.
If you look at this post as an example, you will notice a lot of text, some sporadic static images, a video and an infographic. I mixed up the types of content in order to provide my reader with the information that I think will help them. I tried to do this in many ways so that my readers can benefit from the information whether they like text, video or easy-to-follow graphics.
Whatever your favorite medium, you will need to provide your readers with up-to-date and actionable information that is USEFUL to them. Only by being useful and helpful will you gain their trust. Only after gaining their trust will you be able to make commissions based on your recommendations.
SECRET #3 – YOU NEED A BLUEPRINT
If you want to run a successful affiliate marketing business, you need to lay out a specific blueprint or road map that you will follow. This will act as your business plan before you take off. Your blueprint is important because:
1. It is what will help you select a niche. Your niche should ideally be something you are genuinely passionate about so that you won’t be bored and abandon it along the way.
2. Your blueprint will also help you build a website quickly. Having a plan of exactly what you need to do will help eliminate the various trial and error stages that would otherwise be involved. Check out the video further down this post for an example of how to create a site in less than 1 minute
3. The blueprint will also guide you through content creation. The content you create needs to be tailored to your niche and target specific keywords. Having a blueprint that clearly outlines this will help you stay focused on the goal.
4. It will also show you how to monetize your site. A proper site monetization strategy is essential if you want to create a steady revenue stream.
Without a proven blueprint, chances are that you will get frustrated and quit. This is what happens to most affiliate marketers. Without a clear path, I chased every new product that promised quick success. I wasted money I did not have and precious time. Sure I learned a lot of different things, but not in a cohesive manner that would allow me to be successful. It was not until I found the right teachings and focused solely on one blueprint that I started to see results!
SECRET #4 – BUCKLE DOWN
Contrary to what you may have heard, affiliate marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes a lot of effort, a lot of time, and a lot of hard work. You need to be prepared to treat your affiliate marketing business as you would any other business and actually work hard to make it successful.

From experience, I can tell you that the income will trickle in slowly after the traffic start to manifest itself. But the growth will most likely be exponential and sustained – As long as you keep putting in the work.
One of the hardest things to do for affiliate marketers to do, is to remain committed and active even after weeks and months of not seeing any improvement. This is a flawed observation because the improvement is happening. Its just not in the form of tangible things.
Your keywords may not be ranking in the first 10 pages. Your income may remain at zero. Google analytics shows you are writing to a ghost town. This all seems to point to no improvement or advancement being made. But that is only partially true.
What you can’t measure is the trust your site is getting as it ages. You can’t see that some people are actually enjoying your site and spending time looking through it. You can’t see that your keywords are on pages further down the SERPs and that they are indeed improving in position but not yet on page 10).
Basically, what I am getting at is that you need to stick to it. When you are down and feeling like it is all a major waste of time – write another post. Remember that success could be right around the corner. don’t be like the other affiliate marketers that quit!

And since Affiliate marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme, it takes a few months to get rolling. Loving your niche makes it easier to stick to it during those tough months where you are not seeing any returns.
